Mushroom Cultivation Workshop and Log Inoculation with Reilly and Sam
Saturday May 31st 10-12
This class will be held outdoors at the Lucky Ranch in Evergreen, CO. You will be sent an email with detailed instructions on how to get to the ranch and what you may want to bring/wear, several days before the class.
This class includes all instruction and taking home a ready to fruit, local, Colorado oyster block, that you will watch grow at home. Oyster block can be fruited indoors, or in your garden. If you wish to grow it in your garden, you may also take home wood chips from local fire mitigation, to bury your block!
In this Mushroom Cultivation 101 class, we will be exploring the basics of what mushrooms are, how they grow and how to grow some of the simpler varieties of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms such as Oysters, Shiitake, Lion's Mane, Reishi and many more! We will delve into simple cultivation techniques such as log, block and bed style propagation, that is easy for most people to do at home. We will also cover the pasteurization or fermentation of bed materials, and install a bed as a group.
You’ll learn hands on how to prepare, inoculate and care for mushroom blocks, logs and beds. In addition, you’ll learn how to utilize resources in your environment to passively cultivate mushrooms as part of a permaculture system. The overall goal for this class is to familiarize newcomers with the fungi world, how to cultivate mushrooms in basic hands off methods and ultimately, how to think like a mushroom so we can utilize them more efficiently in our everyday lives!
